A New Lal Kitab Chart for Every Year of Your Life

"Will this year be better than the last?" It is the question I hear most often, and the Lal Kitab answers it in a way no other system does. It does not cast a fresh chart from the sky. It takes your birth teva and moves its planets into new houses by a fixed table, one arrangement for every year of your life. That rearranged chart is your Lal Kitab varshphal, and it is read for the year from one birthday to the next.

Because the table moves whole houses, the varshphal keeps the character of your birth chart while changing its emphasis every year. A planet that was quiet can come to the front; a planet that troubled you can step back. The year's remedies follow from that — they are for this year's trouble, not the whole life's.

What you get from the calculator above: the verdict for your running Lal Kitab year and the house that leads it, the annual chart, the planets resting this year, the year month by month with each month's dates, and the remedies for the year — and a year picker to open any other year of your life.

Lal Kitab varshphal: a group of planets in the birth teva moving together to a new house in this year's chart, with the year's twelve months below
In the Lal Kitab varshphal, planets in one house move together to a new house each year.

How the Lal Kitab Varshphal Table Works

The Lal Kitab gives a table with one row for every year of life. Each row says, for that year, where each house of your birth chart moves: the planets of your first house go here, those of your second house go there, and so on for all twelve. Apply the row for the year you are in, and your Lal Kitab teva becomes this year's chart.

Two things follow. The varshphal depends only on your teva and your age, not on where the planets are in the sky this year. And because whole houses move, planets that share a house at birth always travel together — your birth chart's groupings are carried into every year.

Lal Kitab Varshphal and Vedic Varshphal

The name is shared, the method is not. The Vedic varshphal, from the Tajik school, casts a real chart for the moment the Sun returns to its birth position each year, with its own year lord, muntha and sahams. The Lal Kitab varshphal casts nothing from the sky; it moves the birth teva by the book's table.

I read both when someone asks about a year. The Vedic annual chart shows what the sky brings; the Lal Kitab varshphal shows how your own chart is rearranged for the year and which planets need a remedy in it.

The House That Leads Your Lal Kitab Year

Every Lal Kitab year has a house that comes to the front — the part of life the year is mostly about. In one year it is money and family, in another career and standing, in another marriage. The calculator names that house in its verdict for the year and reads the year around it.

It is often the most useful single line in the reading. Knowing that a year leans on career rather than marriage tells you where to put your effort, and where not to force things.

Planets Resting This Year

Just as planets can sleep in the birth chart, planets can rest in a particular year. A helpful planet resting this year holds back its good until later; a harsh planet resting this year stays quiet and does no harm. The calculator shows both, so you know which blessings may come late this year and which troubles are on pause.

A planet's state in the birth chart — explained on the sleeping planets page — and its state in the year are read together. A planet asleep at birth but awake this year is often the year's surprise.

Your Lal Kitab Year Month by Month

The Lal Kitab year is divided into months counted from your birthday, each with its own emphasis. The calculator lists every month of your running year with its dates and what it brings, so a promising month and a month to go carefully are easy to see in advance.

For the longer view — the 35-year cycle of planetary periods and the house active at your age — see the Lal Kitab dasha.

Remedies for the Year

The varshphal comes with its own remedies, for the planets that trouble this year in particular. They follow the same rules as all Lal Kitab remedies — in daylight, steadily, one planet at a time — but they are done within the year, often near its start.

Remedies are shown for the running year and years ahead, never for a year already past. The best time to read your Lal Kitab varshphal is just before your birthday, so the year's remedies can begin with the year.

A Worked Example: My Own Lal Kitab Varshphal

Here is how I read the varshphal of my own Lal Kitab teva. Every placement is the real one.

  1. The Birth GroupingsThe Sun, Moon, Mercury and Venus share the second house of my teva; Jupiter and Saturn share the third; Mars is alone in the fourth, Ketu in the fifth and Rahu in the eleventh.
  2. They Move TogetherBecause the table moves whole houses, those four second-house planets travel together into the same house every single year. The crowding of my birth chart is carried into every annual chart.
  3. What I Watch Each YearThe house that group lands in tends to lead the year, simply because it carries four planets. Whether it lands among friends or enemies decides whether that year is smooth or eventful.
  4. Mars on Its OwnMars, debilitated at birth, travels alone. The years in which it moves to a better house are the years I expect it to give its best, and the years it moves to a hard house are when its remedy matters most.

This is how I would ask anyone to read their own varshphal: find where the birth groups go this year, and the year usually explains itself. The calculator does the moving and shows the result.

Lal Kitab Varshphal: Questions People Ask

Lal Kitab varshphal is the annual chart of the Lal Kitab. For each year of your life, the planets of your Lal Kitab teva move to new houses by a fixed table given in the book, and that rearranged chart is read for the year — from one birthday to the next.

Vedic varshphal, the Tajik annual chart, is cast for the exact moment the Sun returns to its birth position. Lal Kitab varshphal casts no new chart from the sky: it moves the planets of your birth teva by the book's own table, by the year of your life. The two answer the same question in very different ways.

On your birthday. Each Lal Kitab varshphal runs from one birthday to the next, and the calculator shows the year you are in now, with its months and their dates.

Yes. The year picker on the reading opens any year of your life, so you can look back at a year already lived or ahead to the next one. Remedies are shown only for the current year and years to come.

Yes. The table moves whole houses, not single planets, so planets that share a house in your teva travel together into the same house every year. A crowded house in the birth chart stays crowded in every annual chart.

They can be. The birth remedies are for planets that trouble the whole life; the varshphal remedies are for the planets that trouble this particular year, and they are done within that year.

Yes. The varshphal moves the planets from their houses in your Lal Kitab teva, and those houses come from your lagna, which needs the birth time.

Yes. The annual chart, the verdict for the year, the planets resting this year, the year month by month and the year's remedies are all free, for any year of your life.
