KP Astrology Tools, and the System Behind Them

Krishnamurti Paddhati reads a chart through Placidus cusps and the sub lord of the cusp your question belongs to, not through whole signs. Every tool here works on that rule — cusps and their three lords, graded significators, ruling planets, dasha on the Krishnamurti ayanamsa, transit, horary and Nadi — and the pages below explain how it all fits together.

Seven calculators working from the same birth entry — your cusps and their three lords, the planets that answer for each house, the periods that deliver an event, and a question asked without a birth chart at all.

Timing

How KP Times an Event: Dasha, Ruling Planets and Transits

A Parashari reading asks whether a period belongs to a benefic. KP asks something narrower: do the dasha, bhukti and antara lords signify the houses this matter needs? A period run by a planet that signifies nothing relevant passes without the event, whatever its reputation. That is why the same year can bring one person a promotion and another nothing at all.

  • Dasha, Bhukti, AntaraVimshottari run on the KP ayanamsa, down to pran.
  • Ruling PlanetsThe planets ruling the moment of judgement, used as confirmation.
  • SignificatorsGraded, so the planets that can deliver are separated from the rest.
  • TransitsRead against your cusps for the final trigger of an event.

The Vocabulary

Key KP Astrology Terms: Cusp, Star Lord, Sub Lord, Significator

Eight terms carry almost every KP reading. Knowing what each one decides makes your own tables readable.

Star Lord

The lord of the nakshatra a planet or cusp falls in. A planet gives the results of its star lord before its own, so this sets the ground a matter stands on.

Sub Lord

The lord of the unequal sub division inside that nakshatra. This is the deciding voice in KP — it says whether the matter happens at all.

Sub-Sub Lord

A further division inside the sub, kept for fine timing and for horary rather than for an ordinary reading.

Cuspal Sub Lord

The sub lord of the point where a house begins. Every KP judgement starts by asking which houses it signifies.

Significators

The planets tied to a house, ranked: through the star of an occupant, by occupying it, through the star of its lord, and by owning it.

Ruling Planets

The day lord and the sign and star lords of the Moon and ascendant at the moment of judgement — used to confirm and to time.

249 Divisions

Twenty-seven nakshatras cut into nine subs each, sized by the Vimshottari years, giving 249 unequal parts across the zodiac.

KP Ayanamsa

The Krishnamurti value, KP Old, with KP New used by some practitioners. A few minutes of arc can move a sub lord and change the answer.

The System

What KP Astrology Is, and How It Differs From Vedic Astrology

K.S. Krishnamurti built this method in the 1960s to end a familiar problem: two astrologers reading one chart and reaching two defensible answers.

A house is measured from the degree where it begins rather than from the sign it sits in, so a planet can sit in one house by sign and another by cusp — and KP always reads the cusp. Every nakshatra is cut into nine unequal subs, sized by each planet's share of the 120-year Vimshottari cycle. The sub your cusp falls in names the planet that decides whether the matter is promised.

Cusps, Not Signs

A house begins at a degree and can hold parts of two signs. Latitude moves it, so the birth city matters.

Three Lords Deep

Star lord sets the ground, sub lord decides, sub-sub lord refines the timing.

Promise Before Timing

If the cusp refuses a matter, no period will deliver it — so KP tests the promise first.

Minutes Matter

A sub can be half a degree wide, which the ascendant crosses in about two minutes.

Questions

KP Astrology — Common Questions

A sidereal system built by K.S. Krishnamurti in the 1960s. It reads a chart through the sub lord of a house cusp rather than through the house as a whole, uses Placidus cusps and its own ayanamsa, and cuts every nakshatra into nine unequal subs on the Vimshottari proportions — 249 divisions across the zodiac.

A kundli treats a whole sign as a house and weighs a matter across planets, lords and aspects. KP measures where each house begins by degree, so a house can hold parts of two signs, and gives the judgement to one planet — the sub lord of that cusp. KP answers whether an event happens; Parashari describes the shape of a life.

KP Old, the Krishnamurti ayanamsa, by default. KP New and more than forty others can be picked in Chart Settings, and your KP ayanamsa is kept apart from the one your Vedic charts use — changing one never moves the other.

It is sharper on yes-or-no questions and far more demanding about birth time. A sub can be under half a degree wide and the ascendant crosses that in about two minutes, so a small error changes a sub lord and with it the answer. Parashari tolerates a loose birth time much better.

Not for a birth chart — cusps need a time. For a single question, horary needs no birth data at all: pick a number between 1 and 249 and the chart is cast for the moment you ask.

Yes. The charts, the twelve cusps with their three lords, the planets in the same detail, the significator tables, the ruling planets, the Nadi chart, horary, transit and the dasha on the KP ayanamsa are all free, with nothing held back behind a payment.
