KP Transit Reads Where a Planet Stands, Down to Its Sub

Most transit predictions stop at the sign: Saturn enters Pisces, Jupiter moves into Gemini, and every Moon sign gets a paragraph. KP treats that as the weather, not the event. What matters is the star lord and sub lord of the exact degree a planet is crossing, and whether those lords signify the houses of the matter in your own birth chart — during a period whose lords already allow it. That is why two people with the same Moon sign can live the same Saturn transit completely differently. This calculator shows every planet for now or any date you choose, with its sign, star lord and sub lord, on the same KP ayanamsa as your birth chart.

The Method

Transit the KP Way

Classical gochar counts a transiting planet's sign from the natal Moon and applies a table: Jupiter is good in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th from the Moon, Saturn in the 3rd, 6th and 11th, and so on, with vedha points that can cancel the result. It is a sound tradition and it describes the mood of a period well. What it cannot do is say whether a particular event will happen to a particular person in a particular month.

KP narrows the question. It does not ask whether a transit is good or bad in general. It asks whether the planet in transit, at that moment, is passing through a sign, star and sub whose lords are significators of the matter in your chart — and whether that is happening while your dasha, bhukti and antara lords signify the same matter. When all of that lines up, the event comes. When it does not, the most glamorous transit passes quietly.

The Principle

Why the Star Lord of a Transit Outweighs Its Sign

The rule that runs through all of KP holds in transit too: a planet gives the results of its star lord before its own. Saturn moving through a sign stays there for about two and a half years, but it crosses three nakshatras and many subs on the way. Each change of star lord changes what Saturn is delivering, and each change of sub lord changes how it ends.

This is why people often feel that a long transit had distinct phases. The first months of Saturn in a sign may bring pressure at work, the middle months a move, the last months relief — and the sign never changed. The star lords did. Reading a transit by its sign alone flattens all of that into one prediction; reading it by star and sub brings the phases back.

Sign
The background of the transit — the broad area of life it touches.
Star Lord
What the planet is delivering while it crosses that nakshatra.
Sub Lord
Whether that delivery turns out in your favour or against you.

The Ground

A Transit Obeys the Dasha

A transit on its own gives nothing. It can only trigger what the running periods already allow. If your dasha, bhukti and antara lords do not signify the houses of marriage, no Jupiter transit over your 7th cusp will bring a wedding. If they do, the transit is the key that turns the lock, and it tells you which of the months inside the period will carry the event.

So the order of work in KP is fixed. First the cusp's sub lord says whether a matter is promised. Then the significators name the planets that can deliver it. Then the dasha picks the years and the bhukti and antara the months. Only then does the transit come in, to pick the weeks and the day. The KP Dasha section of your dashboard runs alongside this pane on the same ayanamsa, so the two can be read together.

Watch the dasha lord in transit. A period lord gives its clearest results when it moves through the sign, star or sub of a significator of the matter, or of the running bhukti and antara lords. It is one of the quickest ways to narrow a KP prediction.

The Months

Slow Planets Set the Months

Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu move slowly enough to mark out stretches of months. When one of them, especially the dasha or bhukti lord, is moving through a star and sub whose lords signify the matter, those months become the window. Jupiter's transit is the one most astrologers watch for marriage, children and growth; Saturn's for work, property and anything that needs patience; the nodes for sudden turns and for travel.

Because they move slowly, these planets also make good tests of a chart. Pick a past event whose date you know, set the transit pane to that day, and see where the slow planets stood. If their star and sub lords signify the event's houses in your chart, the chart and the birth time are working. If not, the birth time may need another look.

The Day

The Sun and Moon Fix the Day

Once the months are known, KP narrows the date with the two fastest bodies that still carry weight. The Sun moves one sign a month and is used to pick the month inside a window. The Moon moves one nakshatra a day and is used to pick the day. The rule is the same for both: the event falls when the Sun or the Moon transits a sign, star and sub belonging to the dasha, bhukti and antara lords — or to the ruling planets at the time of judgement.

This is where KP earns its reputation for precise dates. A marriage promised by the 7th cusp, timed to a Venus bhukti by the significators, narrowed to three months by Jupiter's transit, can then be pinned to the week when the Sun crosses a Venus sub in a sign ruled by the dasha lord, and to the day the Moon does the same.

  1. The Cusp PromisesThe sub lord of the matter's cusp says whether it will happen at all.
  2. The Dasha Picks the YearsDasha, bhukti and antara lords that signify the matter.
  3. Slow Planets Pick the MonthsJupiter, Saturn and the nodes crossing the right stars and subs.
  4. The Sun and Moon Pick the DayTheir transit through the sign, star and sub of the period lords or ruling planets.

A Caution

Retrograde Transits

A slow planet turning retrograde walks back over stars and subs it has already crossed, then crosses them a third time when it turns direct. KP holds that a matter delivered by a retrograde planet is delayed, or comes and is then reversed, and that the lasting result tends to arrive on the final, direct crossing.

This matters most when the dasha lord itself is retrograde in transit. The period can feel stalled while it moves backwards, and the event you were expecting often arrives within weeks of the station direct. The transit pane marks retrograde planets so you can see which crossing you are on.

Questions

KP Transit — Common Questions

Ordinary gochar reads a transiting planet by the sign it is in, counted from the Moon or the ascendant. KP reads it by the star lord and sub lord of the degree it occupies, and asks whether those lords signify the houses of the matter in your birth chart. The sign sets the background; the star and sub decide the result.

No. In KP a transit only delivers what the running dasha, bhukti and antara already allow. It works as a trigger inside a period that has the right significators. A fine transit during a period whose lords signify nothing connected to the matter passes without the event.

The slow planets — Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu — mark the months in which a matter can happen. The Sun narrows it to about a month and the Moon to a day or two. KP looks for the date when the Sun or Moon moves through a sign, star and sub belonging to the dasha lords or the ruling planets.

A planet running its period gives its strongest results when it transits the sign, star or sub of a planet that signifies the matter in your birth chart, or of the lords of the running bhukti and antara. Watching the dasha lord's own transit is one of the quickest ways to narrow a KP prediction.

Because transits are matched against the star lords and sub lords of your KP chart. If the transit were worked on Lahiri and the birth chart on KP Old, a planet near the edge of a sub could land in the wrong one, and the reading would be wrong without anyone noticing.

Yes. The transit pane takes a date, time and place of your choosing, so you can check the sky on the day of a past event to test your chart, or on a coming date to see what it holds.

Yes. The planets for now or any date you pick, with their signs, star lords and sub lords, are free, with nothing held back behind a payment.
