Significators Tell You Which Planet Carries Which Part of Your Life

A KP chart can tell you that marriage is promised, that a job change is coming, that property is in the cards. It cannot, on its own, tell you which planet will bring it. That is the job of the significators. Every house in your chart is tied to a handful of planets — some firmly, some loosely — and those planets are the only ones able to deliver its matters when their periods run. KP ranks those ties, strongest to weakest, so that a reading does not treat a distant owner and a planet sitting in the star of an occupant as equals. This calculator lays out the whole web for your chart: house by house, and planet by planet.

The Idea

Why KP Grades Its Significators

In a Parashari reading, a house is judged through its lord, the planets in it and the planets looking at it, and all of them are weighed together by feel. Two astrologers can look at the same 7th house and pick different planets as the ones that matter most. Krishnamurti found that unsatisfying. He wanted a rule that would say, for any house, which planets stand for it and in what order — so that the reading could be checked, and so that timing could be fixed to the planets that really carry the matter.

His answer rests on one principle that runs through the whole of KP: a planet gives the results of its star lord first, and its own second. The nakshatra a planet sits in is the substance of what it delivers; the planet itself is the channel. Once you accept that, the order of significators follows almost by itself, and the tables on your dashboard are simply that order worked out for your chart.

The grading matters in practice. A house can easily have six or seven planets connected to it in some way. Without a ranking, every one of their periods looks like a candidate for the event, and the prediction becomes a list of maybes. With it, the strongest two or three stand out, and those are the periods an experienced KP astrologer watches.

The Order

The Four Levels of Signification

For every house KP asks four questions, in this order. The planets that answer the first are the strongest significators of that house; those that answer only the last are the weakest.

The four levels at which a planet signifies a house in KP, strongest first
LevelThe TieWhy It Ranks There

Level A

Planets in the star of an occupant of the house They carry the occupant's results before their own, so the house flows through them first.

Level B

The occupants of the house Sitting in the house ties a planet to it directly, but it gives its star lord's houses before this one.

Level C

Planets in the star of the owner of the house They carry the owner's matters, and ownership is a weaker bond than occupation.

Level D

The owner of the house — the lord of its cusp sign The loosest tie on its own. A lord far from its house delivers little without support.

An empty house is not a silent house. When no planet occupies a house, levels A and B are simply empty, and the house works through its owner and the planets in the owner's stars. Many events in life come through houses with nothing in them.

Table One

Reading the House-Wise Table

The house-wise table starts from a house and lists the planets that signify it at each level. This is the table to open when you have one question in mind. Asking about a job? Look at the 2nd, 6th, 10th and 11th. Asking about marriage? Look at the 2nd, 7th and 11th. The planets that turn up again and again across those rows are the natural candidates to deliver the matter.

Read the rows for repetition, not for one strong name. A planet that signifies the 7th at level A is promising; the same planet appearing under the 2nd and the 11th as well is far more so, because it ties together every house a marriage needs. On the other side, a planet that signifies the 7th but also stands strongly for the 6th and 10th will bring the matter with friction, or bring it and then test it.

The table also shows you where a house is thin. A house with no occupants, whose owner has no planets in its stars, has very few significators, and the matters of that house arrive late or through a narrow door. That is information too.

Table Two

Reading the Planet-Wise Table

The planet-wise table turns the same facts around. It starts from a planet and lists every house that planet signifies. This is the table for timing and for understanding a period you are living through. If Saturn's mahadasha is running, the planet-wise row for Saturn tells you what those years are made of — and the rows for each bhukti lord tell you which part of that comes forward, and when.

Most planets carry a mix. A Venus that signifies the 2nd, 7th and 11th and also the 12th can bring marriage along with spending, or marriage that takes you away from home. The skill is in reading the mix against the question in front of you rather than calling the planet good or bad. The 12th is loss when you are asking about savings and gain when you are asking about settling abroad.

Planet-Wise

Together

The Shadow Planets

Rahu and Ketu Among the Significators

Rahu and Ketu own no sign, so they can never be a level D significator of anything. They still occupy a house, they still sit in a star, and other planets can sit in their stars — so they take their place at levels A, B and C like any other body. What sets them apart is that they also act as agents.

A node gives the results of the lord of the sign it occupies, of the planets conjunct it, and of the planets aspecting it. When those planets are themselves strong significators of a house, the node inherits that house — and because a node delivers what it carries with unusual force, it often becomes the most powerful significator in the chart for that matter. KP astrologers say a node is stronger than the planet it represents, and the timing of many sudden events bears that out.

So when Rahu or Ketu appears in your tables with a long list of houses, do not dismiss it as noise. Look at which planets it is representing, and read its periods as theirs, delivered louder.

Putting It to Work

From Significators to a Verdict

Significators on their own do not say whether a matter will happen. That verdict belongs to the sub lord of the relevant cusp: if it signifies the houses that build the matter, the promise is there; if it signifies the houses that deny it, no significator can override it. What the significators add is the who. Once the cusp has allowed the matter, the significators name the planets through which it will come.

Every matter has its own set of houses, and they are precise. A job is built by the 2nd, 6th, 10th and 11th and broken by the 5th, 8th and 12th. Marriage is built by the 2nd, 7th and 11th and resisted by the 1st, 6th and 10th. A child comes through the 2nd, 5th and 11th. Property through the 4th, 11th and 12th. A planet whose significations fall mostly among the building houses is a planet that can deliver; one that falls mostly among the breaking houses is the one behind delays and reversals.

An example. Suppose the 7th cusp's sub lord signifies the 2nd and 11th, so marriage is promised. The house-wise table shows Mercury at level A for the 7th and 11th, and the Moon at level B for the 2nd. Now open the KP Dasha section and look for a chain run by those two planets: say a Mercury Dasha → Moon Bhukti → Mercury Antara. All three lords are marriage significators, so those weeks are the strongest window. A Mercury Dasha with a Saturn Bhukti, where Saturn signifies only the 6th and 10th, would pass without the wedding.

Timing

Significators and the Dasha

Timing in KP is the meeting point of two lists. One is the list of significators for the matter. The other is the chain of dasha, bhukti and antara lords running at a given time. An event comes when the lords of that chain are themselves significators of the matter — ideally all three, and at the strongest levels.

Because the significators are graded, the dasha can be read with confidence. A period whose lord is a level A significator of the 10th, running a bhukti of a planet that signifies the 2nd and 11th, is a strong window for a job. A period whose lord signifies nothing connected to the 10th will pass without the job, however promising that planet looks in the kundli. The ruling planets at the time of judgement are then used to pick out the right window among the candidates.

The KP Dasha section of the same dashboard runs the Vimshottari on the KP ayanamsa, so the periods you check against these tables are worked on the same zodiac as your cusps.

Questions

KP Significators — Common Questions

A significator is a planet that stands for a house and can bring its matters into your life during its periods. In KP a planet signifies a house by occupying it, by owning the sign on its cusp, or through its star lord doing either. The significators of a house are the planets that can deliver what that house promises.

A planet sitting in the star of a planet that occupies the house. KP holds that a planet gives the results of its star lord before its own, so being in the star of an occupant ties it to the house more firmly than occupying the house itself. Plain ownership of the cusp sign is the weakest link on its own.

They are the same facts read from two ends. The house-wise table starts from a house and lists every planet that signifies it, strongest first — useful when you ask about one matter. The planet-wise table starts from a planet and lists every house it signifies — useful when you want to know what a dasha or bhukti lord will bring.

When no planet sits in the stars of an occupant, the occupant itself gives the results directly, and KP treats it as a full significator. The same applies one level down to the house lord. The grading only shifts strength towards the star-level planets when such planets exist.

Like any planet for the house they occupy and the star they sit in. On top of that they act as agents, carrying the houses of the sign lord they occupy and of the planets conjunct or aspecting them. A node joined by strong significators often becomes the strongest significator of all.

Yes, within a few minutes. The occupation and ownership of houses depend on the Placidus cusps, and the cusps move about a degree every four minutes. A planet near a cusp can change house with a small error in time, and with it every significator that runs through that planet.

Yes. The house-wise table, the planet-wise table and the grading from strongest to weakest are free, with nothing held back behind a payment.
