Vedic Astrology Calculators, From Your Kundli to the Questions That Matter

Jyotish reads one chart, the kundli cast for the moment and place you were born, on the sidereal zodiac. From it come your lagna and rashi, the nine planets in twelve houses, the nakshatras and the dasha periods that time your life. The calculators below draw that chart, check its doshas, and answer the questions people bring to an astrologer most: marriage, career, children and kundli matching.

Popular: free kundli · kundli matching · marriage prediction · Sade Sati

Timing

How Vedic Astrology Times Events: Dasha, Transits and Varshphal

A kundli shows what a life promises; the dasha shows when. Each planet rules a period of years in the Vimshottari cycle, and a matter comes to life when the period belongs to a planet tied to it. Transits then trigger the event within that period: Jupiter blessing the 7th house in a Venus dasha brings marriage close, while Saturn's Sade Sati over the Moon asks for patience. The Varshphal, the chart of each birthday, adds the theme of the year.

  • Vimshottari DashaThe 120-year cycle of planetary periods, from the Moon's nakshatra at birth.
  • Gochar (Transits)The planets today, read from your Moon sign and lagna.
  • Sade SatiSaturn's seven and a half years around your Moon sign.
  • VarshphalThe annual chart, birthday to birthday, with its year lord.

The Vocabulary

Key Vedic Astrology Terms: Lagna, Rashi, Nakshatra and More

Eight terms carry almost every kundli reading. Knowing what each one means makes your own chart easy to read.

Lagna

The ascendant, the sign rising in the east at birth. It is the first house, and every other house is counted from it, so it needs the birth time.

Rashi

Your Moon sign, the sign the Moon was in at birth. In India it is the sign of your horoscope, your Sade Sati and your kundli matching.

Nakshatra

One of the 27 lunar mansions of 13°20′ each. Your Moon's nakshatra sets your nature, your name syllable and the start of your dasha.

Bhava

A house of the chart, each an area of life: self, wealth, siblings, home, children, enemies, marriage and so on through the twelfth.

Graha

The nine planets of Jyotish: Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn and the shadow planets Rahu and Ketu.

Dasha

A planetary period. The Vimshottari dasha divides 120 years among the nine planets and times when each part of the chart comes alive.

Navamsa

The D9 divisional chart, each sign cut into nine. It is read for marriage and to judge the real strength of a planet.

Yoga and Dosha

Combinations of planets: a yoga brings a gift such as Raj yoga or Gajakesari, a dosha a difficulty such as Mangal or Kaal Sarp dosha.

The System

What Vedic Astrology Is, and the Other Systems It Branched Into

Jyotish means the science of light. It is the oldest unbroken tradition of astrology still practised, and the one most Indian families turn to at every turning point of life.

The calculators on this page follow the Parashari method, the backbone of Jyotish. Over the centuries the tradition grew other branches, each with its own strength. I use them together: Parashari for the shape of a life, KP for a sharp yes or no, Jaimini for the deeper themes of marriage and career, and Lal Kitab for practical remedies.

Sidereal Zodiac

The signs are fixed to the stars, measured with the Lahiri ayanamsa by default.

KP Astrology

Placidus cusps and sub lords, for precise answers and timing.

Jaimini Astrology

Chara karakas, rashi aspects and the chara dasha.

Lal Kitab

A fixed-house reading known for its simple, practical remedies.

Questions

Vedic Astrology: Common Questions

Jyotish, the astrology of India, written down in classics such as Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. It reads a kundli cast for the moment and place of birth on the sidereal zodiac, through the nine grahas, the twelve houses, the 27 nakshatras and the dasha periods that time events.

Your date of birth, the exact time of birth and the place of birth. The time decides the lagna and the houses, which change about every two hours, so the closer the time, the better the reading. The place sets the latitude, longitude and time zone.

Lahiri, the ayanamsa adopted by the Government of India, by default. More than forty others, Raman and Krishnamurti among them, can be picked in Chart Settings.

In Vedic astrology the Moon sign, your rashi, is the sign most used: daily horoscopes, Sade Sati and kundli matching are all read from it. The Sun sign is the sign of the Sun, and on the sidereal zodiac it is often one sign behind the Western Sun sign you may know.

It can describe the promise in a chart and time it. Marriage is read from the 7th house, Venus, Jupiter and the navamsa; career from the 10th house and its lord; and the dasha running shows when each matter is likely to come up.

Yes. The kundli, the charts, the dasha, the doshas, matching and the predictions by date of birth are free and need no sign-up. Talking to an astrologer is the only paid part.
