A kundli is a map. A kundli prediction is the journey drawn on it.

The free kundli page on this site gives you the chart — planets, houses, degrees, dasha tables. Most people look at it and ask the only question that matters: so what does it say about me? This page answers that. People search for a future prediction by date of birth; what astrology actually gives is not fortune-telling but a reading of tendencies and timing, and done properly it is remarkably close to the life.

A kundli prediction is what an astrologer does after the chart is cast: he reads the lagna for who you are, the Moon for how you feel, the nakshatra for the grain of your nature, the running dasha for what this stretch of life is asking of you — and then the houses, one by one, for career, money, marriage, children and health. Not a personality quiz; a reading, from your own placements, by fixed rules that have not changed since Parashara.

A north Indian kundli with the houses read for career, wealth, marriage and health
Twelve houses, twelve departments of a life — read in a fixed order, never all at once.

How a kundli prediction is made, in the order an astrologer makes it

Nobody reads a kundli all at once. The sequence is fixed for a reason.

  1. The lagna and its lordThe body, the temperament, the strength of the whole chart. A weak lagna lord weakens every promise elsewhere.
  2. The MoonThe mind, the mother, the sign a person feels the world through. The Moon's condition tells you how a person carries what happens to them.
  3. The janma nakshatraThe Moon's star, which colours the nature in ways the sign does not and fixes the dasha that follows.
  4. The running dashaA chart's promises come due in order; the question is always what the present lord holds.
  5. Only then the housesCareer, money, marriage, children, health — each from its house, its lord and its occupants.

A prediction that skips this order gives you a list. One that follows it gives you a life.

What your lagna says about you — the ascendant reading

The lagna is the sign that was rising when you were born, and it is the first thing a Jyotishi reads because it is the frame everything else hangs on. A Mesha (Aries) lagna acts before it thinks and forgives quickly; a Karka (Cancer) lagna feels the room before it enters; a Makara (Capricorn) lagna is old at ten and young at sixty. But the sign is only the start — the lagna lord's placement decides where the life points.

Lagna lord in the 10th
A life built around work and standing
In the 7th
Around the marriage
In the 12th
Abroad, or inward
In the 6th or 8th
Meets its tests early, grows through them

Your reading gives the lagna, its lord's house and dignity, and the planets sitting in or aspecting the first house — and says plainly what they make of you.

The Moon sign reading — how you feel, and what steadies you

In India the rashi is the Moon sign, and there is wisdom in that. The Sun says what you are; the Moon says what you need. Chandra in Vrishabha (Taurus) needs comfort and does not forgive its loss; in Vrishchika (Scorpio) it needs depth and distrusts ease; in Meena (Pisces) it needs faith, in something or someone. The Moon's house shows where the mind goes when it is left alone; the Moon's dignity shows how well it recovers.

A Moon with Saturn is a mind that carries weight; with Jupiter, a mind that finds meaning; with Rahu, a mind that wants what it has not got. The reading takes your Moon's sign, house, nakshatra and company, and tells you what your emotional weather is made of — which is worth knowing before you judge yourself for it.

Your nakshatra — the grain of your nature

Twenty-seven stars divide the Moon's path, and the one the Moon occupied at your birth is finer than any sign. Two people with the Moon in Simha (Leo) are not alike if one is in Magha, with its ancestors and its pride, and the other in Uttara Phalguni, with its bargains and its loyalty. The nakshatra's lord starts your Vimshottari dasha; its deity, its symbol and its gana describe a temperament the sign only outlines. Your reading names the nakshatra and pada and says what it gives — and what it asks you to watch.

Career, wealth, marriage, children, health — the houses read one by one

This is the part people come for, and it is read from the houses, their lords and the planets in them.

QuestionRead fromAlso weighed
Career10th house and its lord10th from the Moon, Saturn, the Sun
Wealth2nd (earnings) and 11th (gains)Jupiter, the 2nd and 11th lords
Marriage7th house and its lordVenus, the Navamsa — read in full
Children5th house and its lordJupiter, the Saptamsa
HealthLagna, 6th and 8thThe Moon, the lagna lord's strength

For each, the reading says what the house is like, which planet rules it and where that planet sits — and what the combination usually brings. It also says, in each case, where a planet is likely to bring difficulty, because a reading that only flatters is not a reading.

The running dasha — your future prediction by date of birth, period by period

A kundli prediction that ignores the dasha describes a person who never ages. The mahadasha you are in colours everything: a Saturn dasha slows, tests and builds; a Jupiter dasha opens doors and asks you to walk through them; a Rahu dasha wants, and gets, and does not always keep; a Venus dasha brings comfort and relationships; a Ketu dasha strips away. The antardasha inside it sets the tone of the year.

Your reading names the mahadasha and antardasha running now, what the two lords promise for you from their birth-chart positions, and how long this stretch has to go. The full table of periods, past and coming, is on the Vimshottari dasha page.

What a kundli prediction can tell you, and what it cannot

It can tell you your nature, your tendencies, where your life leans, which periods favour which efforts, and where the chart says be careful. It cannot tell you the date of your wedding, the name of your employer or the year of a death — anyone who claims those from a birth chart alone is guessing. Astrology reads the shape of a life with real accuracy; the details are filled in by the person living it.

Read the prediction the way you would read a good doctor's report: not as a sentence, but as knowledge you can act on.

Kundli prediction in a consultation — why an astrologer still matters

The reading here is made by fixed classical rules from your own chart, and it is honest within those rules. What it cannot do is weigh — see that the 7th lord's debility is cancelled by an exchange, or that Saturn's aspect on the Moon is softened by Jupiter's. That weighing is judgement, and judgement is what you pay an astrologer for. Take this reading in with you; it will make the consultation shorter and better.

Questions

Kundli prediction — the questions people ask

The reading made from a janam kundli: the lagna for temperament and the direction of the life, the Moon and nakshatra for the mind, the houses for career, wealth, marriage, children and health, and the running dasha for what the present period brings. It is made by fixed classical rules from your own placements.

The kundli is the chart — planets, houses, degrees, dasha tables. The prediction is what those placements mean, read in order. The free kundli page on this site gives the chart; this page gives the reading from it.

Accurate about nature, tendencies and timing, and honest within fixed rules; less exact about outcomes, which depend on choices and other people. The chart must be cast from a correct birth time — an hour's error can move the lagna and change the reading.

Yes, in the sense that matters: the kind of marriage, the field and standing a career leans toward, whether wealth comes by earning or by gain, and the periods in which each moves. It does not give names, employers or amounts.

The lagna and its lord, then the Moon. A strong lagna lord steadies every other promise in the chart; a well-placed Moon lets a person use what the chart gives. Everything else is read against those two.

The chart does not change; what it delivers does. Each mahadasha brings forward the promises of its lord, so the same kundli reads differently at 25 under Rahu and at 45 under Jupiter. The running dasha is why the reading is dated.

No responsible astrologer predicts death from a birth chart, and this reading does not try. Difficult periods for health are read from the lagna, the 6th and 8th houses and the dasha, and are given as periods to take care in — nothing more.

It is the same starting point, by the same rules, and it is honest within them. An astrologer adds judgement — the cancellations, exchanges and combined effects no rule set catches — and answers your own question. Take this reading into the consultation.
