Why Research-Based Articles Matter in Astrology

Every astrologer has read the same classics: Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Phaladeepika, Saravali, Jataka Parijata. What separates one reading from another is not the book but what the astrologer has done with it. A rule copied from a text and repeated on a website tells you very little. The same rule tested on hundreds of charts where the outcome is already known tells you how far it can be trusted, and where it fails.

That is the purpose of these articles. Each one takes a single question that people actually bring to an astrologer, such as when marriage will happen, whether a Kaal Sarp Yog is really harmful, or which yogas give wealth, and works through it with the classical rules, real charts and the results those people lived. My family has practised Jyotish for five generations, and the habit we were taught first was to check the rule against life before speaking.

How I Test an Astrological Rule Before I Trust It

The method is simple and slow. I begin with the rule as the classical text gives it. I then look for charts where the event is already known: the date of marriage, the year of a job change, a long illness, a move abroad. If the rule points to the right period in most of them, it stays. If it works only when the birth time is "adjusted", it goes. Many popular rules do not survive this test, and that is worth knowing before anyone acts on them.

My own chart is part of the test set. For a Leo ascendant the Moon rules the 12th house, the house of leaving, and in my chart a weak Moon sits in the 2nd. The books say such a native moves often, and I have changed homes more times than I can count. A rule that describes your own life that plainly earns its place; one that does not, I set aside however famous its source. The timing side of this work rests on the Vimshottari dasha, and all of it on the sidereal zodiac.

Classical Rules Need Today's Context

The classics were written for a different world. A text that links the 10th house to service of the king has to be read today for a government job, a corporate career or a business of one's own. Marriage now often comes later than the old texts assumed, second marriages are common, and travel abroad that once meant exile now means a work visa. Research is how the old rule is carried into the present without losing what made it true.

This is also why the famous charts in these articles matter. A public life is a documented life: dates of marriage, election, success and crisis are on record. Reading such a chart beside those dates shows, in the open, how a technique behaves. When you want the same reading for yourself, begin with your free kundli or a when will I get married reading, and if you are new to Jyotish, the step-by-step guide to learning Vedic astrology covers the planets, signs and nakshatras these articles rely on.
