What Is Shukra Gochar?
Shukra gochar is Venus's movement through the twelve signs. Venus never moves more than about 47 degrees from the Sun, so it goes round the zodiac in about a year, as the Sun does, sometimes a little ahead of it as the evening star and sometimes behind it as the morning star. In most years it enters twelve or thirteen signs; in a year with a retrograde it may enter fewer, staying three or four months in one.
Venus Transit and Your Moon Sign
Count from your Moon sign, your Janma Rashi, as the first. Venus is the kindest of the transiting planets: it gives good results in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th, 9th, 11th and 12th signs, bringing affection, new clothes and ornaments, gains, comforts and pleasant company. Only in the 6th, 7th and 10th does it ask for care, with quarrels in close relationships, overspending and friction at work. Venus Retrograde and Shukra Asta
About every nineteen months Venus turns retrograde for some six weeks. Old relationships and unfinished matters of the heart return, and it is a better time to mend than to begin. Every retrograde period is on the Venus retrograde dates page.
Venus is also combust, lost in the Sun's light, every nine to ten months, and the longer of these periods lasts around two months. This is Shukra Asta, and like Guru Asta it closes the season for marriages and other auspicious ceremonies. Venus in Its Exalted, Own and Debility Signs
Venus is exalted in Pisces, at its highest at 27 degrees, where love turns to devotion and art to something finer. It owns Taurus and Libra, with its moolatrikona in the first fifteen degrees of Libra, and it is debilitated in Virgo, lowest at 27 degrees, where feeling gives way to fault-finding. How to Use the Venus Transit Dates
Look up when Venus enters the signs that are good for your Moon and keep those weeks for a proposal, an engagement, a purchase of jewellery, clothes or a vehicle, or a new artistic venture. When Venus passes the 6th, 7th or 10th from your Moon, or is combust, hold back on big spending and take care in close relationships. For a marriage date, a muhurta must also fall outside Shukra Asta and Guru Asta.

Venus's Transits in My Own Chart
My Moon is in Virgo, and Venus was there with it when I was born, in its sign of debility, so I read every Venus transit from Virgo. Its weeks in Aquarius, Pisces and Gemini, the 6th, 7th and 10th from my Moon, are the ones I keep quiet. Pisces is the lesson: Venus is exalted there, yet from my Moon it is the 7th, one of its three difficult places. A transit is read from the Moon first, and dignity comes second.
