Krittika Nakshatra Personality and Nature
KrittikaAries and Taurus
Look up on a winter night and you will find a small, bright knot of stars, the Pleiades. In India they are the Krittikas, the six sisters who nursed the infant Kartikeya, the commander of the gods. The same star is ruled by Agni, the fire that cooks the food, carries offerings to the gods and burns away what is impure. A Krittika native carries both pictures at once: the fierce blade and the mother's warmth.
The blade shows first. These people say what they see, and they see a great deal. Falsehood irritates them almost physically, and they will cut through a polite pretence in a sentence. The Sun, lord of the star, gives them pride and a sense of their own worth; they do not like being talked down to, and they do not forget it. Anger rises fast, and like a fire it can scorch whatever is nearest.
The warmth is what people discover later. Krittika natives look after others with real dedication, feed whoever comes to the house, and fight for their own the way the six mothers guarded Kartikeya. In my consultations I have often found that the person a family turns to in a crisis, the one who is sharp with everyone yet never abandons anyone, has the Moon in Krittika.
Because the star spans two signs, the flavour changes. With the Moon in Aries (pada 1) the fire is open and restless. In Taurus (padas 2 to 4) it is held in an earth sign: steadier, more patient, fond of comfort and good food, but just as stubborn once a position is taken.
Krittika Nakshatra Male Characteristics
Varahamihira says the native of Krittika eats well, shines with an inner brightness and becomes widely known, and the Krittika man usually fits that description: a strong appetite, a commanding manner and a name that travels further than he does. He tends to have a well-defined face and a direct gaze that people remember.
He is ambitious and works hard, but he wants credit for it, and a boss who takes his ideas will not keep him long. His honesty can cost him friendships; he would rather be right than liked. At home he is a provider and a protector, generous with money and food, impatient with excuses. Learning to soften his words without changing their truth is what lifts him from being respected to being loved.
Krittika Nakshatra Female Characteristics
The Krittika woman has the nursing, guarding instinct of the six mothers in full measure. She is capable, clean in her habits and quick to take charge, and the household around her tends to run on time.
She speaks plainly and dislikes gossip, though her own judgements can be sharp. With a Taurus Moon she enjoys beautiful things and good food, and she is careful with money. In marriage she is loyal and hardworking, and she expects her husband to keep pace; she has little patience for a partner who drifts. Her children are fiercely protected and firmly disciplined in equal measure.
Krittika Nakshatra Padas: Degrees, Navamsa and Letters3°20'00" each | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| Pada | Degrees | Navamsa | Letter |
| Krittika Pada 1 | Aries 26°40'00" – 30°00'00" | Sagittarius (Jupiter) | A |
| Krittika Pada 2 | Taurus 0°00'00" – 3°20'00" | Capricorn (Saturn) | I |
| Krittika Pada 3 | Taurus 3°20'00" – 6°40'00" | Aquarius (Saturn) | U |
| Krittika Pada 4 | Taurus 6°40'00" – 10°00'00" | Pisces (Jupiter) | E |
Krittika is the first nakshatra to cross a sign boundary, and two of its four padas sit in Pushkara navamsa, the specially nourishing portions of the zodiac. Which pada the Moon occupies is read from its exact degree in your birth chart.
Krittika Nakshatra Pada 1
The only Aries portion of the star, in Sagittarius navamsa, a Pushkara navamsa for a fire sign. Jupiter tempers the fire with ideals: these natives are bold and outspoken, but they fight for principles, often as teachers, preachers, lawyers or leaders of a cause.
Krittika Nakshatra Pada 2
This pada holds the Moon's point of highest exaltation, 3° Taurus. A Moon here gives a calm, stable mind and a gift for building wealth slowly. The Capricorn navamsa adds discipline; these natives are practical, hardworking and dependable.
Krittika Nakshatra Pada 3
Saturn's Aquarius navamsa turns the fire outward towards society. Natives of this pada are independent, humanitarian and often unconventional, drawn to science, technology or public service, and less interested in comfort than the other Taurus padas.
Krittika Nakshatra Pada 4
The Pisces navamsa, a Pushkara navamsa for an earth sign, softens the blade the most. These natives are devotional, artistic and emotionally generous, with a strong pull towards spiritual practice and charity, yet the Krittika directness never fully leaves them.
Is Krittika Nakshatra Good or Bad?
Krittika is a good star to be born in. It gives courage, honesty, the ability to lead and the capacity to work hard, and Pada 2 holds the exalted Moon, one of the best placements for emotional strength. Its reputation for being "harsh" comes from the razor in its symbolism and from its Rakshasa gana, which describes temperament, not fortune.
Krittika is not a Gandmool nakshatra, so no Gandmool Shanti is needed for a child born in it. In muhurta it is a mishra, or mixed, star: good for work with fire and metal, for cooking and for rituals of Agni, and generally avoided for gentle beginnings such as a wedding.
Krittika Nakshatra Compatibility for Marriage
Krittika belongs to the Antya nadi, so a partner from the same nadi brings Nadi dosha. Its yoni is the goat, and the goat's enemy in the yoni table is the monkey, the yoni of Purva Ashadha and Shravana. Krittika is also of Rakshasa gana, which sits most easily with another Rakshasa partner and least easily with a Deva one. Because three of its four padas are in Taurus, the best matches below are for a Taurus Moon; Krittika pada 1, with an Aries Moon, needs its own check. A full kundli matching settles both.

| Shatabhisha | Rakshasa gana, Aadi nadi, and Aquarius 10th from Taurus, with Saturn a friend of Venus |

Krittika Nakshatra Love and Married Life
Krittika natives do not fall in love lightly, and they do not hide it once they have. They show love the practical way, by looking after the other person: meals, plans, protection from anyone who threatens them. What they find hard is gentleness in words. A partner who needs constant reassurance may feel criticised, when the Krittika spouse thinks they are only being honest.
Married life is strongest where the partner has a spine of their own and does not take the sharpness personally. Arguments flare like fire, hot and brief, and the Krittika native usually expects to move on the same evening. With a Taurus Moon, the home matters a great deal, and they build it with patience and care.
The timing and quality of marriage still come from the 7th house, its lord and the karaka in the full chart. A marriage prediction by date of birth reads those in your own chart, and a love prediction looks at the relationship side.
Suitable Career for Krittika Nakshatra
Agni is the cook's fire and the smith's fire, and both trades suit this star: chefs, hotels and catering, the food business, and the working of metal, from foundries and steel to jewellery and gold refining. The razor points to precision work with a blade, surgery above all, and to the "cutting" professions of the mind: editors, critics, auditors, quality control and investigation.
The Sun, lord of the star, gives authority and a liking for it, so government service, administration, politics and the armed forces are natural fields. And the six mothers who raised Kartikeya are behind the many Krittika natives who become teachers, coaches and guardians of the young. Which of these paths suits you is read from the 10th house of your own chart, and a career prediction by date of birth shows it.
Krittika Nakshatra Health Problems and Care
Taurus rules the face, throat and neck, so with the Moon in padas 2 to 4 the common complaints are sore throats, tonsils, thyroid trouble and dental problems; pada 1, in Aries, leans towards headaches instead. The Sun, lord of the star, governs the eyes, the heart and the bones, and those deserve attention as the years pass.
Agni is also the digestive fire. Krittika natives usually have a strong appetite and strong digestion, and when it goes wrong it goes towards heat: acidity, ulcers, fevers and skin inflammation. Food eaten on time, not too spicy, and an anger that is let out rather than swallowed are the simplest care. Any complaint that keeps returning should be shown to a doctor; the chart points to where to be careful, not to a diagnosis.
Sun Mahadasha at Birth for Krittika Natives
Life begins in the Mahadasha of the Sun for everyone born in Krittika. It is the shortest of all the Vimshottari dashas: at most 6 years, and often much less, depending on how far the Moon had travelled through the nakshatra. The Moon's own 10-year dasha follows, so most Krittika natives pass both the Sun and Moon periods before they finish school.
Vimshottari Dasha Sequence for Krittika NativesAges vary with the Sun balance at birth | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| Mahadasha | Length | Begins Between Ages | Ends Between Ages |
| Sun | 6 years | Birth | 0 and 6 |
| Moon | 10 years | 0 and 6 | 10 and 16 |
| Mars | 7 years | 10 and 16 | 17 and 23 |
| Rahu | 18 years | 17 and 23 | 35 and 41 |
| Jupiter | 16 years | 35 and 41 | 51 and 57 |
| Saturn | 19 years | 51 and 57 | 70 and 76 |
| Mercury | 17 years | 70 and 76 | 87 and 93 |
| Ketu | 7 years | 87 and 93 | 94 and 100 |
For the Taurus Moon of padas 2 to 4, the Sun rules the 4th house, so its short opening dasha is often marked by the home itself, a move, a new house or the father's work shaping the family. Mars, lord of the 7th and 12th, arrives in the teens and early twenties and can take the native away from home for study or bring an early attachment. Rahu's 18 years then cover the struggle-and-climb years of a career.
The most valuable period comes later. For a Taurus Moon, Saturn rules both the 9th and the 10th houses, which makes it the yogakaraka, and its 19-year dasha in the fifties and sixties is often the native's most rewarding time for status and fortune. These are tendencies from the Moon alone; the form at the top of this page shows your exact Sun balance, and the Vimshottari dasha calculator lays out every dasha of your chart with its dates.
Lucky Gemstone for Krittika Nakshatra
Ruby is the stone of the Sun, the lord of Krittika, and it is the one most often suggested for this star. Suggested is not the same as suitable. Ruby strengthens the Sun, and that helps only when the Sun is a friend to your ascendant and well placed in your chart (your free kundli shows both). For a Libra or Capricorn ascendant, for example, where the Sun rules the 11th or the 8th house, ruby is a poor choice even for a Krittika Moon. Where the chart does not clearly support it, the mantra below is the safer remedy.
Krittika Nakshatra Mantra and Remedies
The mantra of this star is "Om Agnaye Namah". Chant it 108 times, best on the day the Moon passes through Krittika, once in every 27 days. For the Sun, the lord of the nakshatra, the beej mantra "Om Hraam Hreem Hraum Sah Suryaya Namah" is chanted alongside it, and offering water to the rising Sun (Surya arghya) or reciting the Aditya Hridayam are the classic Sun remedies.
Agni is honoured by keeping a fire alive and feeding others from it. Lighting a ghee lamp at dusk, cooking for someone in need, and keeping the kitchen clean are small acts that please the deity of this star, and they calm the restless fire that Krittika natives carry inside.
